Newspaper reporters and technical writers are trained to reveal almost nothing about themselves in their writings. This makes them freaks in the world of writers, since almost all of the other ink-stained wretches in that world reveal a lot about themselves to readers. We call these revelations, accidental and intentional, elements of style.

An interesting comment from a writer who admitted that he had little or no respect for most of his readers. He hated being classiified as a Science Fiction author and wrote in a fashion that he felt they could comprehend (i.e. short and simple sentances).  Robert A. Heinlein sold a lot more books by assuming his readership was intelligent and could handle complex concepts.
